Having worked hard so far this term our endurance squad were well prepared and ready to race at the annual Leweston Relays. Entering the largest number of teams in recent years we felt confident on the short drive up the hill.

Despite recent heavy rain we were delighted to see the fabulous state of the course, thanks to Leweston ground staff for their effort creating a great test and with almost no mud a fast course.

With the relay format, and four age groups some 80 girls took to the start line for the 2.4k challenge. We were very encouraged to see Daisy dominating the field and handing over in the lead to Marianna. From this moment we didn't look back with Hebe and Charlotte completing the fine quartet coming over the line as the fastest team overall and winning the event.

There were plenty more fine performance throughout the afternoon, our Intermediate B team also smashing the course, taking a thoroughly deserved win in style and finishing an incredible 5th out of 19 teams overall.

Great individual runs from Selene, Millie, Sophie, Amelia, Birdie and Emily T saw them all get pbs, knocking considerable time off previous runs on this course. This is such encouraging progress and a clear indicator of their hard work and the quality of our endurance squad training programme.

Our youngest runners didn't disappoint, for six of these girls from AW it was their first run in an SG vest. They were led off by Birdie who is showing real signs of progress with a pb of more than 60 secs from the same stage last year. Another example of hard work paying off. Birdie is one of a large group of runners benefitting from weekly training at Wimborne Athletic Club (WAC) as part of our endurance programme.

A top class afternoon of Cross Country running from all of the squad which bodes well when the full season starts in earnest in the New Year. Great job girls!
