Match Report
Sherborne Girls Seniors vs  Clayesmore Classic
On: Saturday, 08 Jan 2022
Venue: Away

The Cross-Country season began last Saturday at the Clayesmore School for the Claysmore Classic Race. This race was a very challenging 4.2K in some very tough weather conditions. We were treated to a broad spectrum of English winter weather. Torrential rain, ankle deep mud, and ditches filled with water! Initially, we were all slightly apprehensive as we hadn’t been training as much in the holidays as we do at school. However, the moment the race started Sherborne took the lead in both the senior and intermediate races. Our grasp of the lead continued throughout the race and everyone dug deep and gave it their best. This resulted in us bringing home 5 out of the 6 medals between the teams.

Birdie led the way for the Inters in 1st place and was closely followed by Lily 2nd, Annabel 3rd and Eleanor 4th. The senior girls achieved a gold (Lara), and a bronze from Anna. The whole team showed determination however Eleanor Thomas really stood out with her exceptional perseverance despite losing her shoe in the early stages of the race and completed the rest of the race in one shoe. This race was an absolutely incredible start to the official cross-country term and the whole team should be extremely proud and excited of the success. More tough moments to come!
