Match Report
Sherborne Girls Girls-U18A vs  CLC Tournament
On: Saturday, 03 Feb 2024
Venue: Away

On Saturday, the Lacrosse 1st Team travelled to Cheltenham Ladies, depleted in numbers but optimistic about the upcoming tournament. Congratulations to Chloe C and Evie W who stepped up from U15 and performed brilliantly. Our first game was against Stowe and we started the tournament off strong, winning 3-1. Our second match against Monmouth was a game we dominated thanks to Amaka and Flo’s exceptional attacking. A pleasing 6-1 win gave us confidence ahead of a difficult fixture against Marlborough. Despite trailing 2-1 at the break, the team fought back well, thanks to Mary's outstanding saves and Martha's strong leadership. In the final minutes, Evie W scored emphatically to bring up the 3-2 win for SG. Next up were the hosts, Cheltenham Ladies. This game proved to be more challenging at first, due to the opposition's athletic midfield. However, AJ and Hermione performed incredibly using their pace and quick feet to execute our fast breaks with a clinical edge. The defence remained exceptionally strong throughout this game and well done to Chloe for not letting older girls phase her in defence. The game ended 3-1 to SG, and following an undefeated start to the tournament, we arrived at our final game, Godolphin. The opposition started quickly, shocking us with their speed and ability to control possession, racing to a 3-0 lead. We quickly found our feet and defended resolutely for extensive periods, keeping the opposition scoreless for the remainder of the game. Special mentions to both Panda and Kythe who defended extremely well despite obvious exhaustion.

Overall, we are delighted by the performances and pleased to have taken 2nd place, despite our limited numbers. A definite season highlight.
