Captain’s report

Today was the final match of the season against King’s Taunton school. They are a strong team and tested our limits. However, everyone was passionate to end the season with a bang and went out there putting in their all. I was incredibly impressed with the communication and skill that came out of the game today. The team was playing tactically and at a fast pace. Special mentions go to Lucy Lu, coming back from her injury to help the team. Goals were by Emma H (1), Charlotte Usher (1) and Vicky P (2) being at 3-0 at half time and finishing the match with a 4-0 win. It has been an excellent experience playing with the team and I wish next years players the best of luck!

Coach’s viewpoint

After Thursday’s excellent performance against Bryanston, we now faced King’s College from Taunton who had beaten us at their ground by 4-1. We had a point to prove today and the girls certainly kept their play at a high level.

The first half performance was sublime with the team playing excellent football in all areas of the pitch. The back three of Isla B, Maddy Le C and Lucy L kept the opponents at bay and set up good moves from our own third of the pitch. Excellent wide play from Hattie S and Imogen C in both attacking and defensive duties enable us to set up good forward play. In the middle of the park Charlotte U directed play with Emma H and Lizzy D making crunching tackles to stop the opponents from building attacks. Up front, Ali C ran the line and set up good forward play with Vicky P always a threat with her athleticism and direct running towards goal. It was a great move that saw Emma H open the scoring with a well deserved goal after 7 minutes. Charlotte U added a second when she broke free and ran towards the goal and slipped the ball past their keeper. We went 3-0 up when Vicky P was released over the half way line and her run and dribble ended with a great finish into the corner of the net.

At half time the girls were reminded that our visitors would come back at us and they certainly did. Kath H was in great form in goal and managed to save many attempts at our goal. In fact she had played extremely well in the first half too with good saves, important decisions and excellent distribution. The game ebbed and flowed but i was always confident that we would add another and we did when Vicky P pounced on their defender on the half way line and ran through to finish with a flashing shot into the corner of the net to give their keeper no chance.

Olivia B, Izzy B, Tive D and Camilla R-C all played their part when they came on to secure this 4-0 win.

I am so proud of this group of players and thank them for their effort, determination and attitude towards training and match play.
