Sherborne Girls U18A Girls vs  England Squash National Schools Championship (First Round)
On: Tuesday, 19 Nov 2019
Venue: Away

On Tuesday the 19th November, the Sherborne Girls Squash Team travelled to Millfield School in Street in order to compete in the first round of the England Squash National Schools Championship. The fixture was carried out as a triangular between Millfield, SG and Cheltenham Ladies College. Matches of three games were played in their entirety, and the total number of points scored for each opponent contributed to an overall 'team score'.

In the first round of the fixture, Sherborne faced Cheltenham. Five pairs of players stepped onto the courts, some games lasting longer than others, but all of them closely fought. Issy and Amelia had particularly tense battles here, but placed their shots well enough to win two out of three games. Willow and Eliza also won their games, but Tilly unfortunately came up against Cheltenham's secret weapon - a star tennis player-turned-squash player of particular skill. SG won 4 out of 5 games.

In the second round, Sherborne faced Millfield. Millfield possessed an arsenal of talented squash players, each one practising several times a week. Sherborne did extremely well to get the points that they did and there were many encouraging rallies, but the scoreline alone does not reflect this.

It is, as of yet, unknown whether or not Sherborne's performance takes them into the next round of the competition; the scores will be collated by England Squash in due course.

We would like to thank Milfield for hosting a fantastic day of Squash! Best of luck to both teams in the rest of the competition.
