Sherborne Girls 1st XI Girls vs  Millfield School
On: Saturday, 01 Oct 2022
Venue: at Home

Today we played an eleven a side match against Millfield, coming away with a 2-2 draw.

In the first half, the more experienced players played against them, with Bea Walker managing to score a very confident first goal and Bobby Henderson (our youngest player) scoring the second! Everyone was play was very strong, including Tilly Clarke who had some amazing saves in this half, resulting in only one goal being conceded against us!

In the second half, people who have played less were put on. They all played super well and we had some amazing play from Tive Dlamini, Nathalie Cheung, Rapha Auret and Octavia Tennant. In goal, Poppy Evens had multiple amazing saves, again only conceding one goal!

Overall we had some really good play from everyone and a very positive game!

Thoughts from the coaches Mr McMorrow + Ellie Chandler

This was a physical game where our girls stood up to some bruising challenges. Our girls were brilliant in facing up to an improved opposition who went 1-0 up early on in the game. We put the pressure on and managed to play a lot of the game in and around their penalty area but just lacked conviction in the area. Bea Walker levelled the score and became the first girl to score on our new full size pitch and goals with a drive towards the edge of the penalty box and unleashed a shot high into the top corner to level the scores. Bobby Henderson was always threatening he space behind the opponents' defence and she finally scored when nipping in between the defender and the advancing goalkeeper to guide the ball home for a 2-1 half time lead.

The second half saw a new team come on with some experienced players but mostly it was new players to the game. They did not disappoint with their effort and skill. However, Millfield pounced on a poor pass in midfield and levelled through their most dangerous player. The game was mainly played in our half and Poppy Evans had to make many save which included a penalty save to keep the score level.

The final 10 minutes saw our girls gain confidence with Olivia Bell showing some slick dribbling skill sin defence, Kate Crawford playing with confidence in midfield, Nat Cheung and Tilly Sanders shutting down moves on their sides of the pitch, and OctaviaTennant doing well in an unfamiliar role in the centre of defence. Angel Wakayu was bossing the defence with her strong challenges. Towards the end our girls could have won the game with Bryony Robinson and Verity de Pelet linking up with Emilie Lawrence and Rapha Auret who almost scored the winner.

This was an excellent display of determination matched by super support from the squad on the sidelines.

Well done all
