As the last match of the season approached, Sherborne faced a tough challenge against Clifton College, particularly with some key players missing from the front line. The game kicked off with both teams fiercely tackling and fighting for possession. Delilah excelled at sweeping the ball away, and our back three defenders held strong at their posts. By half-time, the score was 3-0 in favor of Clifton College, but Sherborne did not lose heart and continued to fight valiantly.
In the second half, Amelia made several clean passes, advancing the team up the pitch. We created a number of scoring opportunities, however, due to a lack of power in our shots and the outstanding performance of their goalkeeper, we missed some opportunities. Although we had several corner kicks, our attempts were thwarted by a combination of hesitation and strong defensive plays from Clifton.
Coco was making crucial saves, while Asenath effectively tackled incoming attackers, working seamlessly with Delilah and Eva. Upfront, Sophia and Charlotte showed promise in driving goal kicks forward, but we struggled to maintain possession. This highlighted areas for improvement, particularly in aggression, being first to the ball, and controlling play more effectively.
The match concluded with a score of 6-0 to Clifton College. Despite the scoreline, players of the match were awarded to Coco for her exceptional defending and Lizzy. Although it was a challenging loss, the team maintained their spirit until the final whistle, demonstrating resilience throughout the match. Main areas to focus on in the future will be ensuring cleaner first touches, receiving and controlling. Special thanks to Sophia and Amelia from the U15 stepping up for this match and although they were playing against older girls they did a great job upfront. The hard work put in during this term was shown within the matcha and we look forward to building on this foundation in the future.
