ISFA South West Development League
King's College, Taunton 0-2 Sherborne Girls
After Thursday's heavy defeat in the Dorset cup, it was good to get back to the league program. This is always going to be a tough fixture and we have not won many games at Taunton in the past. Today saw a slight change in defence as Tive made her first outing of the year, so Elena L switched to right centre back. This solid back line gave us the platform to build attacks via the wide space whilst Cici A provided the links with central attacks. We had most of the play in the first half and we ought to have several goals up but due to poor shooting we had to wait until the 20th minute to open the scoring. A beautiful cross from Camila R was guided home by Amelia P. We had further chances when Annie P sent in two wonderful crosses that ought to have been converted.
We had most of the play in their half. We dominated the ball and challenges were strong. Our goalkeeper had to make one super one on one save when she dived at the feet of the oncoming attacker to deny them an equaliser. This was a sign of what was to come in the 2nd half.
The girls had played well in the first half with Simone making life difficult for the home team defence with her constant challenging and running in behind the lines. However, KC Taunton came out like a different side and showed more aggression and started to make numerous chances. Kath H made some saves but the best from her was yet to come when their attacker shot at goal and we all thought that is was 1-1 until Kath pulled out an unbelievable save to deny the equaliser.
The opposition were more confident and the game ebbed and flowed with chances from both teams being wasted. We had several good chances to add to our lead but the shots went wide or were not powerful enough. Eventually we got the second goal 10 minutes from time when Imogen C pulled the ball back for Amelia P to guide home from 10 yards.
It was a cagey final ten minutes but energy from substitutes Sophia A and Lizzy L gave our midfield some help in denying the opposition the ball.
Finally the whistle went and we went home with another 3 points and now top the table.
