Dorset County Cup
Thomas Hardye School 2-0 Sherborne Girls
We started very well and pressurised the opposition all over the pitch. Our first half performance was the best this season. The back 3 of Booby H, Isla B and Matilda B coped well with any attacks by the opposition. They were ably backed up by goalkeeper Kathy H who commanded her area with some great interceptions and gave good vocal advice.
In the middle of the park, Katy C played good sensible football with her selection of passes and she was ably assisted by the fierce tackling of Simone A and Camila R-C. On the wings, Imogen C gave her usual gutsy performance and was instrumental in creating attacking moves. Annie P upped her game and was more physical and combined well with the central mid-fielders to create crosses. Up front Amaka A and Amelia P worked tirelessly to get shooting opportunities but were denied by a well organised opposition defence.
At half time it was 0-0 and the only instruction was to make attempts at goal as we had not really bothered their goalkeeper in that first half.
The second started as with the previous half with our girls dominating territory but not attempts at goal. Aimee came on up front for her senior debut and did well in the most part. She moved to a more natural wide position later in the game.
The turning point was when their key player was moved to attack and her dribbling ability gave her the opportunity to score from 10 yards. We still searched for the equalise but we hit with a sucker punch when a player was not closed down quickly enough at the edge of the box. She hit it first time and it flew into the top half of the goal giving our goalkeeper no chance.
We lost the game but I was really pleased with how we played the game. It is a good base on which to take on to next term.
