Day 2 and we awoke to another beautiful day of clear blue skies and the cheery sound of 80s pop music drifting through the complex. The girls had the opportunity for a lie in and leisurely breakfast of waffles, bacon and maple syrup or anything else that appealed on the Disney fast-food menu. Suitably rested and replenished we headed off to ESPN for our third match of the tour, our opponents the highly acclaimed ‘Orange Crush’ were ready and waiting. After a thorough warmup led by Coach Nick Hind we prepared our starting line-up. The game was to be played in 4 quarters of 15 minutes allowing us an opportunity to rotate all 22 girls through the match. Soon after the starting whistle the opposition scored the first of what were to be a series of 6 goals in the first quarter. The tempo and style of play was considerably different from the previous 2 matches and we were very much on the back foot. With a welcome 5 minute break after the first quarter we able to regroup and assess the situation. Fresh legs on the pitch and a quick goal for Sherborne allowed us a brief moment of respite before the next onslaught began but this time our defence were better placed to respond and we ended the quarter with a 6-2 defeat. Another turn around and some clear direction from Coach Emily Spivey about retaining possession of the ball resulted in a tighter score line in the third quarter of 4-1 to Orange Crush. It was heading to midday as we approached the final quarter and the heat was becoming quite intense but the girls were determined to do themselves justice against this top-class side, and so they did finishing with 3-3 draw in the final quarter. We left the pitch having learnt a great deal about the strength of American club teams but with our heads held high. Lunch was a pizza affair with some of the staff and players from Orange Crush who proved to be very generous hosts and then it was back to the hotel for a shower and leisurely afternoon by the pool. This evening we took the Disney Express to Disney Springs for a little retail therapy and to soak up the atmosphere of the many bars, restaurants and street entertainers. By 9.00pm we were all flagging and were grateful to get back to the hotel and tucked up in bed ready for an early start tomorrow.
