Sporting Highlights week ending 14 June

Despite the challenging weather at the weekend, we had an enjoyable tennis fixture against Kings College, Taunton in which the girls won 7 out of 8 of their matches. This was on the back of a clean sweep of wins against Leweston School last Thursday. It has been a short but very rewarding tennis season in which the girls have played 58 matches so far and won over 70% of their games, providing a fitting end to Ella’s tenure as captain of tennis.

Wednesday saw the Intermediate Athletics team in action in the South West English Schools Athletics Association finals, having qualified in first place at the county championships. The team finished in a very credible 4th place behind Marist Senior School (Ascot), South Wilts Grammar and Millfield. We entered this phase of the competition in 7th place nationally and are currently placed 4th pending the outcome of some remaining regional events. Congratulations to Marianna Sawyer for achieving a PB of 4m 55.2s in the 1500 and Hebe Hunter who completed the 800m in 2m 24.3s.

We are looking forward to Sports Day on Saturday 22 June which starts with picnics on the tree line at 12.30 for parents and daughters. The starting pistol for the first event will be at 1.30pm.
