Sport Bulletin - 17 Sep 2021

What a fantastic start to the term. Thank you to Canford for offering us a challenging and enjoyable block hockey fixture last weekend, the results were fairly evenly split with Sherborne Girls strength in depth showing through with great results from our 3rd XI, 4th XI, B and C teams in their first fixture of the season. The lacrosse 1st XI had a wonderful Old Girls reunion with their previous team-mates, we hope this will be the first of many OGs v 1st XI matches thanks to the enthusiasm and organisational skills of Mrs Spivey.

We also had a terrific, nail-biting win on Thursday for the 1st XI against Taunton School in the first round of the U19 Independent Schools Hockey Cup. After a 1-1 draw at full-time, the match went to shuffles to decide the outcome. An outstanding performance from 1st team goalkeeper, Lily and 2 excellent goals from Eleanor and Tilda secured us a 2-0 (pen) win. Our Westies also enjoyed a fabulous afternoon of hockey mid-week at Clayesmore with an encouraging set of results and some real talent begin to show through.

Next week we look forward to hosting over 200 girls aged 13-19 who may be aspiring to, or already be involved in performance pathways, as well as PE Teachers, Coaches and Sport Directors who have a shared interest in addressing issues relating to female performance, participation and enjoyment of sport. Our ‘Sport in Her Shoes’ conference is a ground-breaking event and the first of its kind in a growing movement to improve the experience of girls and young women in sport.
