Sports Bulletin

The Lent term has started with some exciting news. We are delighted to congratulate Eleanor T who has been selected for the Wales Hockey U18 National Age Group squad, a fantastic achievement particularly as she will be eligible for 2 years in this age group!

Our netballers have also got off to a fabulous start with 2 excellent wins on Saturday for the U18 A and B teams against Christ College Brecon. First team Coach, Miss Walls, reflected that every girl on the court really stepped up and showed that they deserved their team place with a special mention to Poppy M who was voted Player of the Match. Sadly only the indoor matches scheduled were able to go ahead due to the very wet and slippery court conditions. However, the weather is no obstacle for our lacrosse players and they put up a feisty performance against Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools with the U18A team only narrowly losing by 1 goal. Our Westies also had a very close netball match mid-week against Leweston School securing a victory for the U13A team by the narrowest of margins and demonstrating they are able to thrive under pressure.

The cross-team had a run out on Saturday in the Clayesmore Classic which is always a challenging course. Sherborne Girls came away with 5 out of the 6 medals with notable 1st place wins for Lara T in the Seniors and Birdie P in the Inters. This race was excellent preparation for the Dorset County Championships which took place at Kings Park, Bournemouth on Thursday. Whilst we await the official results to be published and County teams to be announced, we are fairly confident that 6 of our runners will have qualified in the top 10 for their age group in the county - a great result for Sherborne Girls!
